Parallel structure

A lack of parallel structure on both headings and lists is a common problem for inexperienced technical and business writers.

Parallel structure helps the reader comprehend the information faster. More interestingly, although many readers (and managers) will not be able to say "It's not parallel" is the problem, they will know something is wrong with the text.

Reading order of a report

Academic writing has an unwritten assumption that the readers start at the beginning and read through to the end. Business reports are not read this way; the readers jump around the report and pick & choose what to read based on their interests.

After reading the executive summary, many readers will only read the introduction and the conclusion. This is the major reason why the conclusion must a full set of details about the report's evaluation; the reader has not read the body of the report.

The body of the report is read in a piecemeal fashion. If a person questions one of the conclusions or needs more details, they will read that section. If they don't question a conclusion, then that section in the report body will not be read.

So, why provide the entire body of the report if it's not going to be read? Because it provides the reader with the details if they want it and it gives them the confidence that you, as the analyst and report writer, did you job and do have support for the conclusions.
